“It may be possible to do without dancing entirely. Instances have been known of young people passing many, many months successively, without being at any ball of any description, and no material injury accrue either to body or mind;—but when a beginning is made—when the felicities of rapid motion have once been, though slightly, felt—it must be a very heavy set that does not ask for more.” -Emma, Jane Austen, 1816

This year’s fall formal will be a reenactment of the Highbury Ball as written in Jane Austen’s work, “Emma.” We will have live music and a costumed cast, and of course, dancing.

Friday, Sept. 5th

German American Society, 3717 S 120th St, Omaha.

Doors open at 6:30pm, dancing starts promptly at 7pm, with intermissions around 8 and 9pm and dancing to go no later than 10pm.

Cost to attend is $15 per person or $45 per family. Payment is to be given in cash at the door.

Housekeeping!

Water is provided, but no food is allowed. Feel free to bring your own water bottle.

The family rate is only for families: People can register as families and there is no limit to family size, however, you all really do have to be in the same immediate family- ie, only parents with their own children who are minors, living in the same home, make up a family. This is not a group rate- if it was we would go broke. So if your teen says they are bringing a friend, that friend needs to register independently and pay as an individual.

Everyone who attends needs to register and pay: we don’t have space for people to come and watch for free. Registration ensures we don’t overcrowd, and everything we take in financially goes straight to the venue and the band. All of the callers, tech support, cast, etc. are unpaid volunteers!

We also recommend that only children ages 10+ attend our formal events.

Costumes are welcome but we ask that you be modest in your attire. Absolutely no hoop skirts allowed!
